The Rt. Rev. Dr. Emmanuel Chemengich is the Bishop of the Diocese of Kitale in the Anglican Church of Kenya. He will join us at St. Augustine’s on Sunday, October 27th, to preach and celebrate the Eucharist. Our Fr. Philip and his family, as well as several others in the congregation, call Kitale their African home.
Bishop Emmanuel is married to Dorcas, and God has blessed their marriage with four teenage children.
Before being elected as the bishop of Kitale, he served as the Executive Director of Association for Christian Theological Education in Africa (ACTEA), based in Nairobi, Kenya, which offers accreditation and other support services to theological institutions in Africa. He also served as the Principal of Africa Theological Seminary based in Kitale, Kenya; as the Provost of St Luke’s Pro-Cathedral, Kitale; and as Associate Rector in several Episcopal congregations in the USA.
Bishop Chemengich is a graduate of St. Paul’s University, Kenya, and Westminster Theological Seminary and Lutheran Theological Seminary, both in Philadelphia, USA. His theological research focuses are in the fields of Biblical Interpretation, Spiritual Formation, and Christian Education.
Bishop Chemengich loves reading, travelling, and has passionate interests in Church’s involvement in community. In this regard, he and his wife co-founded Mwamba Foundation, an organization offering high school scholarship to needy students, and he chairs and sits in boards of several para-church organizations and institutions in Kenya.
