Ages and stages in life bring new experiences and new friends. Such was the case Sunday, August 9, 2015, when St. Augustine’s parish gathered at the Patricks on the Olentangy River for a good old-fashioned picnic. We had about as many guests as parishioners this year, which pleased everyone! Some of our visitors included one of the most well-mannered middle-school youngster you will ever meet, a Harley-riding husband, a TV star (check out Chicago Meds this fall!!), and four adult daughters with their mamas. Chef Curt and St. Ann organized the menu and took charge of the brats and chicken grilling. Fr. Ron brought his to-die-for pineapple upside-down cake, which fit right in with the other amazing desserts. I guess I should also mention the gorgeous appetizers and salads creatively produced by Team St. Auggie. And, as always, the head of the leadership team, Sarah, brought….drum roll…. CHIPS!!! (You knew that, right???) After the food and some swimming, Captain Allen took eager water-lovers out for rides on the river. Nick decided he wanted to try water skiing for the first time, and he was victorious! We suspect he will not be able to walk a day after, but the trips up and down the river on skis fulfilled a dream of his. Inspired by Nick’s performance, Allison decided she would give it a try. The girl is tough, and after only one false start, she was zipping through the wakes with confidence. Some of our friends could not attend this picnic because of prior commitments, and we missed them. But, a church pasta dinner looms large for the fall – or maybe another chili cook-off, so we will gather again to laugh and love and revel in God’s blessings of Christian fellowship. And as always, we thank the Patricks for their continued graciousness and hospitality to us as we make St. Auggie’s memories. —Dondra Maney Looking for a place to call home?
